Hack Day in New York
Hacks? Well, they happen. There are good hacks and bad hacks. At Yahoo! we promote the good sort with Open Hack Day, a celebration of hacks and hackers from around the world. This time, Hack Day kicks off on Friday, October 9, 2009, in New York’s Times Square, at the Millennium Broadway Hotel on West 44th Street. None other than Internet guru, Clay Shirky, author of Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations, will be on hand to get the hacks rolling with a special keynote address. You’ll also be treated to a first-hand look at all the “what’s new” at Yahoo! for developers, with tech talks and hands-on workshops just for hackers. Hacking will commence shortly after, and continue for 24 hours—or as long as you can geek out—until Saturday afternoon, when you and other hackers will showcase your hacks for a chance to win groovy prizes in Manhattan’s historic Hudson Theater. But wait, there’s more. The Hack Day awards will be followed Saturday evening by “Ignite,” a Yahoo!-hosted series of talks by top-notch techies, also in the Hudson Theater. There’s going to be creativity, fun and food for all—all serious developers, that is. If past Hack Days are any indication (see here and here), this year’s should be a gas. What: Yahoo! Open Hack Day Where: Millennium Broadway Hotel, 145 West 44th Street, New York City When: 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009, , to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009 Why: Because you’re a geek (and that’s good thing). For more info, and to register (real hackers need only apply), visit the Open Hack Day microsite. (Propeller head image by sfllaw via Flicker, CC 2.0) |
