Improving Your Ad CopyAn Improved Feature to Help You Write Better Ads In August we announced a number of enhancements to the system. Several of these involved improving the ad writing process. By far my favorite of these is the improved whatchamacallit, for lack of a better term, that shows you live ads that use your selected keyword(s). By offering this real-time information, this feature can help you write more effective ads, helping you improve your Quality Index score. To use the watchamacallit:
A pop-up will appear showing up to six relevant ads for that keyword.
You can scroll through your keywords using the “Next Keyword” and “Previous Keyword” buttons. Using this feature can help you differentiate your ads from others’ in the same or similar niches when creating a new ad or editing an existing one. And, by the way, we have found that advertisers who use more features like this one tend to get better results. For more on this enhancement, visit the Help Center. —Michael Mattis

That’s a wonderful marketing tool! You guys are playing heavy towards marketing effectiveness even for the low-budgeted one. How much would that cost about 10 years ago, when we had to conduct long market research projects to find out that simple piece of information? It’s amazing to work with marketing these days, more exciting than ever.

Bravo, whom ever is now at the helm of Yahoo! is making huge strides and world class improvements for all parties.

I am very frustrated with Yahoo. It seems so difficult to use. I followed all of the steps above, but did not have a Create New Ad button to click on. So I guess I cannot use the feature??

This sounds like copyright infringement. Of course there are those who say they’re just ‘words’ but the truth is, if someone else’s ad is working – and you encourage that your customers see this work to help write their own ads – what’s stopping them from out-right plagiarism? If someone else’s ad is working – it’s because they took the time to painstakingly write the ad to attract their audience. So sure, rip them off! Copy them! It’s hard to be original. And cheating doesn’t count. Great job Yahoo. Yank the intellectual property right out from under people.

Jim, your remark is valid, however, this is no more that buying your competitor magazines, reading a newspaper, listen to the radio, watching TV or…. entering the term in Yahoo and check the resultant page. Yahoo is making our job easy and I appreciate that.

Yahoo is just adding a feature that is available elsewhere like with Keycompete.com

Another one is wordtracker.com

but wordtracker does not research what other sites are using for their keywords

I’m with Karen. I did exactly what the instructions said, but I don’t get a list of six relevant ads for my keyword. I get a list of my ads running, with no “next keyword”, “previous keyword” thing. For all of Yahoo’s talk about making things easier for people, all it does is confuse the heck out of me when new features are added and tooted, but not available to everyone.

There’s a similar tool for Google that the guys from Engine Ready developed, that is available as a free download. Haven’t used it, just read about it. Think its at http://www.engineready.com

Yahoo has good traffic but their system is also difficult to use. I was basically told by yahoo that I was not a gold member and was not entitled to the better tools. Only those that can spend $6000.00 per month are special. It seams to be survival of the fittest (richest).

Great for small search campaigns, however for bigger campaigns with over 500,000 keywords its not that easy do it all online. I don’t understand why you cant create a software similar to the Google Editor!?

To be honest I think its the most important aspect of an advertisement, if your copy is great whats the point if no ones actually clicks on the AD?

I think that Yahoo has made the creation and management of ads overly complicated. I would like to see them come up with a much more simplified system of creating/managing ads so that I can spend more time taking care of other equally important aspects of our business. Right now I am spending way too much time trying to figure all this stuff out.

Really great tips!
Thanks a lot!
I was really impressed once I studied all Yahoo sponsored ads tools! IMHO they are much better than Google onces!
Google has so many different kinds of errors in their system!… agr… I become very nervous and angry when I go to google adwords.
Now I like Yahoo’s much more!
Also Ad Generator and Insert Keyword Automatically tools are just great!
One last thing: I’d recommend to add an option of bulk additions of keywords in that Ad Generator Tool. I’ve got about 100 keyword variations, so now I have to make 100 copy+pastes?…
