You Complete MeAn Intro to Managing Incomplete Campaigns Just the other day, I sat down to write and my phone rang. Then I received an e-mail that needed immediate attention. After putting out a series of fires, I returned to my desk and did five more things I had promised, agreed to, or undertaken. When I was finally able to revisit my original task, which was…now what was I doing again? We get it. Sometimes you get interrupted, distracted and derailed when building the campaigns that drive your search marketing account. The new search advertising system is designed to remember where you left off and assist you in picking up at the same point. There might be many reasons that a campaign is not immediately carried out to completion. Maybe you have to run to an important meeting before that crucial last step of activating your campaign. In some cases, campaign creation requires the coordination of a few departments, and your budget or creative needs sign-off before moving forward. No matter what the cause, just click on the Campaigns tab to view all campaigns in your account and click on the specific campaign’s link to view the campaign at any step in the process. Click on “+ Create Campaign” above your campaign list to begin the new campaign-creation process. A list of eight steps for campaign creation is displayed, along with the option to import campaigns from another account or third-party source. The system prompts you through each step to activation, as well as allows you to go back and make edits to a previous step:Â
The final Review and Activate Campaign page permits you to edit any aspect of your campaign by clicking on “edit.” Use the button to apply changes to geo-targeting and your campaign’s budget in the Campaign Details section. You can also create new ad groups, add keywords, set keyword and ad group bids and write ads in the Summary of Ad Groups section. Remember, to complete the most important step in your campaign, you need to click on “Activate Campaign.” Unless you click the button to activate, your campaign remains inactive as designated by the icon which looks like a little document with a red and white “X” in the corner. —Stephanie Bilberry, Yahoo! Is it possible to create a campaign from scratch using the import tool? Seems like campaigns and ad groups have to be set up by hand before importing ads & keywords.

Yes, you can. As long as you complete all the requisite fields with the right order you’re fine. Basically you’ll create rows under the header in this order:
Campaign
Ad Group
Ad
Keyword
Ad Group Excluded Word
If you are importing your newly created bulk sheet, you’ll need to have the rows in this order so the Campaign gets set up before the system tries to add the Ad Group, etc. You don’t need to worry about IDs; those will be added by the system. Also, for new campaigns you don’t need to include a start date.
