Got Questions About Your Upgrade?

We’ve got answers

They say there’s no such thing as a stupid question. While it would be hip and edgy to argue with that statement, we can’t. And we can’t because it’s true.

With that in mind, here are some of the most pressing questions we have been receiving about the upgrade:

Q: What will I see when I log in to my new account?

A: The short answer is “a lot.” For starters the first thing you see when you log in to the new Sponsored Search is the “dashboard”

This will give you a summary of your account activity including:

Alerts
Receive important notifications related to your campaigns, editorial issues, billing and payments.

Performance and Account Summary
This allows you to view graphs and key metrics for a snapshot of your account performance.

Top and Watched Campaigns
Easily access and review your top campaigns, ad groups and keywords using the “watched” list on your dashboard.

Create Campaigns
Create new campaigns right from the first page of your account.

The shortest way to get a sneak preview to all that you’ll see is to check out our Flash tutorial, Navigating Your New Account.  You can also get an overview of the new Sponsored Search at the help center.

Q: What can I expect from the new Sponsored Search?

A: Again, the short answer is “a lot.” To get you familiarized with your account upgrade, all the changes to your account structure, how your account listings will be transferred into the new system, and finding your account information after the upgrade, we’ve created an Account Upgrade tutorial, also in Flash.

Q: Is there a resource where I get all of this information at a glance, without having to view a multimedia presentation?

A: Sure.  Please visit the Upgrade Center for all of the key info you need for the upgrade can be found here; access to help, tutorials, blog updates and more.  At an easy to remember URL—newsponsoredsearch.yahoo.com

Q: Once I upgrade, can I still log into my old account?

A: Yes, you will still be able to access your “old” Sponsored Search account here, where you can access reports containing account data accumulated prior to your upgrade date, as well as download your listings (as they stood when you upgraded) to a spreadsheet or text file.

Q: When will my account be upgraded?

A: The upgrading of advertisers to the new Sponsored Search began in October. Advertisers are being upgraded in waves over the rest of 2006 and the first part of 2007. You will receive your individual upgrade date via email at least one week in advance.  Want it now?  Request an early upgrade

Q: Will it cost me anything to upgrade my account?

A: Nope! There is absolutely no cost associated with the upgrade of your account.

Q: I have multiple accounts. Can I upgrade all my accounts at the same time?

A: No, at this time we are not able to guarantee the grouping of multiple accounts from the same advertiser in a single upgrade time. However, to help accommodate your needs, you have the option of requesting an early upgrade of your account.  If you have multiple account that you would like upgrade together please make this request via email to Reservation-desk(at)yahoo-inc.com with the account numbers. If you are invited to upgrade before the end of the year, you have the option to defer it until after the holiday season to avoid any disruptions to your business and advertising during this important time.

Q: Once I upgrade, can I access historical data from my old account?

A: Yes, you will be able to access your historical information for at least six months from the date of your upgrade from your “old” Sponsored Search account. Check your old account here.

Q: What do I need to do the first time I log in to my newly upgrade account?

A: The quick start guide is a must read for the first time you log in to your upgraded account—be sure to print out a copy for reference. And to help ease the transition and make sure that you know where to find all of the “stuff” in the new system

In addition, we offer many more FAQs and lots of other helpful facts in our Upgrade Center.

I work at a company that has develops pay per click software to help advertisers manage campaigns on Yahoo. To complete developing our support for Yahoo Panama we need an upgraded Yahoo account to test our integration. We have gotten a lot of support for the API upgrade. However we have not been able to figure out how to get a test account. Thanks.

I can’t believe you decided to change the format a few weeks before Christmas. This is the busiest time of the year for many of us and what we don’t need is to have to learn a new system.

So, when I logged in this PM, I had not only a new look, but things that are just not easily intepreted, or that I need to read a tutorial for, and whether you believe it or not, less functionality.

If this was run out in Feb, I would have been able to get used to using it. Now, I need to figure it out so I can see what changes I need to make, all in the busiest time of the year.

Not only poor timing, but an extreme lack of concern for the folks that are, and have been, paying for all these years.

    Shame on you.

You have taken away the information with regards to bidding amounts and made your system into a SILENT bidding system. This may be good for YAHOO and YOUR bottom line, maximizing YOUR profits while decreasing traffic on your support servers, but you should have made both the new system and THE SYSTEM I SIGNED UP FOR available!

But, I suppose you do not have to ask or think about the people which PAY for the service…

By the way, you have been doing UPGRADE since October and there are only four comments all in December? This seems fishy…

What are the chances of my adds being off-line for any amount of time? Has anyone else had this problem?

  • 8. Rick  |  December 14th, 2006 at 7:53 am

Does upgrading give you a competitive advantage? For example, if my competitor upgrades to Panama before I do, then are their ads more likely to appear above mine if our bids are the same?

  • 9. Administrator  |  December 18th, 2006 at 4:15 pm

    Dear Brandon,

First, you should check your account to make sure that the search terms you are using in your searches are associated with ads in your account that are set to “on.” Ads (or the ad groups in which they’re contained) that are set to “off” will not be displayed in search results.
Also, our budgeting feature is designed to adjust the display of your listings based on your approximate daily budget (called “daily spending limit” at the campaign/account levels in the new Sponsored Search), which can impact how often your ads may be displayed. If you set your approximate daily budget too low, the number of times your ads may be displayed will be limited to help prevent you from exceeding your target monthly budget, and therefore your listings may not be displayed for every relevant search query.

Since the upgrade my max CPC has gone in order for my keywords/ads to be shown. 90% of my max CPC are above the bidding range and they still show “ad is showing but CPC is not high enough to be shown on first page”? If my max CPC is already higher than the highest bid showing how can this be? I have created new ad copy testing the “Quality Index”, how this is figured is way beyond me, and it still seems I can not get a priorty spot for my keywords. If anyone can explain to me how I can make sure I am within the quality index needed to get priority positioning I would surely appreciate it.

I got teh same error message can someone advise what to do

    Error message:
The upload file you selected does not contain a valid header.

  • 13. storm  |  July 24th, 2007 at 6:45 pm

Same error:The upload file you selected does not contain a valid header.

Please, do you have a solution to this? what’s the problem?

  • 14. Guy Hoogewerf  |  July 27th, 2007 at 11:20 am

I have had about 10 of my accounts upgraded so far, this is nothing short of a disaster, the new system fails int he single most important aspect speed. Pages take between 20-40 seconds to download, Googles take as most 15 seconds, this means I spend up to 3/4 times as long on the Yahoo system for a faction of the return.

The new system really does work for Yahoo, but I am sorry, I am backing out of here.

  • 15. Fraktfritt  |  August 27th, 2007 at 12:53 pm

I´m getting the same error as many others – “The upload file you selected does not contain a valid header.”

Obviously not an isolated problem – cmon Yahoo don´t drop the ball now!!!

  • 16. Mark - HotPaella.com  |  November 4th, 2007 at 12:54 pm

For all those getting the error: “The upload file you selected does not contain a valid header.”

From the adwords editor, don’t export your whole account, but rather export 1 campaign at a time into different files. Convert 1 at a time in Yahoo, then upload each one once converted. -I had the same errors until I tried it this way.

    Good Luck

FYI, Adwords campaign negative keywords generate an error when converting as well. Manually edit the exported csv file to remove the negative keywords, then convert
